What if I was banned from a channel? What can I do?

On AfterNET, channels are mostly sovern, under the control of that channels owner. We (the AfterNET Administrators) have very little jurisdiction to interfere with the decision by a channel owner or his/her delegates to ban you.

What do I do if I am blacklisted

AfterNET uses several Realtime Black Lists (RBLs) from 3rd parties to keep out internet hosts which have caused problems in the past.

The lists consist usually of a list of IP addresses whose owners refuse to stop the proliferation of spam and proxies, hosts that have been seen sending spam or attacking

Can I link a server with you?

We are pretty picky, but always interested in a new server to link. Read over the server application and our oper guidelines to make sure you fit in, and come into #afternet to chat with the opers and admins who will ultimately vote on your server application. If you seem to groove fill out the form.

How do I setup my channel to be private, invite only, or password protected?

First, register with AuthServ if you have not already.

Then, it might help to skim our modes help file.

You have a few options:

“s” and “p” make the channel secret (not shown) and private (masked out) so that no-one knows the channels exist.

How do i create my own room / channel?

First, on IRC, rooms are called channels. All channel names start with a # (pound) sign.

Creating a channel on IRC is easy. All you have to do is join it by typing /join #channelname. If you are the first one to join it, you will get ops (@) which lets you kick, ban, and give ops to others.

How do I register my Nickname?

AfterNET does not believe in using nickname registration. We have an AuthServ instead of a NickServ, where you can register an account, but NOT reserve a nickname.

Nicknames on AfterNET are first-come, first-serve. If the one you want or normally use is being used by someone else, choose another. There are millions of possible nicknames, no reason to argue over them.

We do not give out our actual server list, due to denial of service attacks. However, we maintain several aliases you can use to connect such as irc.afternet.org, which will put you on to one or more currently available servers.
